Memories of Motown
March 18, 2009
Hello Everyone, I hope this news letter find you in good health and prosperous. It has been a while since I made a little time to send out the latest and the greatest in the BBH Camp. First, January 2009 was a big bang with the Memories of Motown Show in Berlin.Bernhardt Kurz, Mickey Stevenson, and Al Abrams, produced the show "Memories of Motown", pioneers and Motown Legends with the exception of Bernhardt Kurz, the long time producer of many shows, such as Legends In Concert, Stars in Concert, Elvis Live, The Fab Four, The The Blues Brothers Show to name a few, put the show together. The Show was cast out with The Contours, The Miracles, Martha Reeves, Bobby Brooks Hamilton as Jackie Wilson, Roz as Diana Ross and Tee Turner as Marvin Gaye which, in which pulled double duty because he was a Miracle as well and Carmen Franke as the moderator for the show. The show ran the whole month of January 2009 in Berlin Germany at the Hotel Estrel with 75% of the shows sold out with a capacity of 1100 people per show 2 times a day for 5 days a week. Yes, we were tired but we loved every minute of it. Berlin is a beautiful city with so much history and land marks that I felt the whole city was a large museum. I can't put into words the structures I saw and the beauty within them and the way the city, food and shopping was such a blast. I can live in Berlin and feel at home, with its grand arts community, its version of Broadway with a million production shows and eateries, and the night life is on the scale of New York and LA combined. We made loads of new friends and fans and it was great for me to meet people such as Sylvester, a original member of The Contours, who knew my father personally, as it was Jackie Wilson whom was responsible for the Contours signed to Motown, do to the the fact that Berry Gordy did not like the The Contours or their audition in the early 60s. He referred to them as "thugs and hoodlums". Anyway, Sylvester talked to me and told me how proud he was of me and my tribute, not to mention his words, "its as if Jackie spit you out". He also thought, since I wasn't raised around Jackie, that I acted so much liked the man, that he caught himself starring at me at times, because he thought I am naturally so much like that him. It was a honor to work with him and all the Legends of Motown. Mickey Stevens gave me some keys to vocal gymnastics which I employed as soon as he taught me in the show. Martha Reeves could not stop calling me "Jackie, Jackie, Jackie". I think she even purred like a cat. She had a few Jackie Wilson stories of her own, which had the gang and me in stitches. Tony Womack, no relations to Bobby, had the sweetest vocals I ever had the pleasure to be near and there lead singer blew me out of the water. The Miracles, lead singer, Sturge, captured the vocals of Smoky Robinson like nobody's business. And Tee, not only looked like young Marvin Gaye, but the way he sang the songs of Marvin's early career with Motown was unbelievable. Also Charles Davis standing in for Bobby, made the show. Roz was fabulous as she always is as Diana Ross and her section of the show. I have a few pictures from the show in the photo Album section of this site, so take a peak. I have a few ship dates as well as some dates in Florida in the condo circuit in February and March. Also I have available for you a new DVD that has all of my latest shows over the 2008 and 2009. I also have 43 video clips on You Tube, and I'm negotiating a management deal with a Motown legend, that I can't mention right now. But soon. The new CD with Terry Wendt is slow and steady and the movie has been pushed back to May. I think I mention I landed a part as originally "Rev Ike" which has been changed to "Rev Mike", in the film "In The Midnight Hour" The Wilson Pickett Story.
Thanks for your patience and all the love you given.
Love you all,
Bobby Brooks Hamilton
